Learning Walks
About Learning Walks The ability to reflect on teaching is the true mark of a professional. It is only through critical reflection that teachers are able to assess the effectiveness of their work and take steps toward improvement. Through Learning Walks, we will gain a sense of the current state of instruction and learning at SCHS, enable teachers to share strategies with one another and cultivate a system of excellence in teaching and learning. Learning Walks are organized to focus on how teachers teach and how students learn. They will help us develop a sense of community while allowing us to reflect on our own professional practice. They are not evaluative in nature. The When & How of Learning Walks at SCHS
Expect the learning walk process to occupy at least an hour of your planning mod each time you choose to participate. We will meet in the main office conference room to begin the process at the beginning of the mod. The goal is to have a small group of teachers visit 3 classrooms (at about 10 minutes apiece) with observations centered on a theme. We will then debrief the observations as a whole team. An administrator will lead each session on different months. |
